Our home is a beautiful Victorian sandstone house located one minute from the beach and promenade at Portobello, Edinburgh. It is just 10 to 20 minutes from the city centre of Edinburgh, capital of Scotland: Athens of the North. The house is carefully and beautifully decorated and has all modern conveniences. It has five bedrooms: four doubles (one of which is presently our child's room with a single cabin bed with plenty of room for 1-2 z-beds) and a fifth which is a single bedroom with study included. There is also a further large study, a large living room, large dining room, a spacious breakfasting kitchen, utility/laundry room, bathroom/shower room, separate shower room/toilet and separate toilet. There is a garden at the back, with a trampoline enclosed with safety netting, and a small one at the front. There are two computers available, each with always-on broadband/internet access and wi-fi. There is also cable TV. In addition, there are all the usual appliances including washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, two fridges, freezer. Our house is a very nice and tastefully appointed and decorated home in a quiet seaside neighbourhood with great access to the heart of the city.

Our house is located in a conservation area consisting mainly of Victorian and Edwardian houses. It is quiet and mature. It is just 1-2 minutes walk from the lovely beach at Portobello, a historic part of Edinburgh. The neighbourhood is traditional and very safe. For more details of Portobello and lots of photographs of the immediate area, go to http://porty.org.uk. The beach is about a mile long with a traditional promenade running the length of the beach. The beach and promenade form a fantastic amenity all year round, with a few nice cafes/bars along the length. The house is very close to several transport links. The bus stop is a one minute walk away with very inexpensive buses running every 5 to 10 minutes directly into the city centre (Princes Street and the New Town 20 to 30 minutes). The train station is 8 minutes walk away with trains running directly to the Edinburgh central station (Waverley Station) taking 8 to 10 minutes. We are five minutes drive from the A1 highway and the city by-pass which gives really easy access from there to the Scottish Borders, Fife, Glasgow, the Highlands and the rest of Scotland. There are also lots of easily accessible walking and cycling paths, see here for a funky cycle map of Edinburgh: http://www.thebikestation.org.uk/innertube-map. There is ample car parking outside the house with no parking restrictions. There are lots of local shops a few minutes walk away (of all kinds): the porty website above has more details.
Edinburgh is a fabulous city, with so much to see and do - culturally (historic buildings, amazing museums and art galleries, wonderful walks), gastronomically (some of the UK's best restaurants and many others across the cost and taste spectrum) and in all sorts of other ways. We love living here, and love having people visit as it gives us the opportunity to share our beautiful city and its surrounding areas. For more details on the beautiful city of Edinburgh: see www.edinburgh.org.
There are also lots of golf courses nearby, the nearest one a five minute walk, open to all.
During August, Edinburgh hosts the world-famous International Festival and the Fringe: see www.eif.co.uk/edinburgh-international-festival-2013 and www.edfringe.com for more details. At Hogmanay (New Year) there is a wonderful festival in Edinburgh including loads of events on the night itself: see www.edinburghshogmanay.com for full details.
